Reclaim Your Master Bedroom

Has your master bedroom become the catchall for miss matched furniture, laundry, exercise equipment and quite possibly a home office set up? This is hardly the oasis that should welcome you after a long day at the office following by the tasks of caring for your family. The master bedroom should be a retreat from the stresses of everyday life and space where you can escape from a busy home. Don’t succumb to the false notion that you need an unlimited budget and the services of an expensive designer to achieve the feel of an oasis in your own master bedroom.  Follow these surprisingly basic suggestions from the design professionals to begin the transformation of your master suite. There’s no better time than the present to get started.

The first step is to remove all the furnishings from the space and cover those with drop clothes that are too heavy, large or cumbersome to move to protect from paint splatter. Protect the floor covering as well. Remove all art work and window treatments as well as hardware from the walls. Patch and sand holes as necessary. Select a light, soft shade of paint for the walls. Bold pops of colors can be added with accessories and bedding. Apply two coats of paint and touch up baseboards and trim as needed.

Take advantage of the awesome deals offered by Groupon coupons and select from the variety of styles for bedding and drapery available from Bed Bath and Beyond. Hang window treatments at least two to three inches below the ceiling height to draw the eye upwards and increase the sense of space.

Avoid the temptation to return smaller, occasion pieces of furniture to the space as this till add to a cluttered feel. Find a different location in your home for a hoe office. A cluttered home office in the master bedroom will zap any positive energy out of the space.  A master bedroom is a space to relax not to work.

Select accessories with pops of color such as throw pillows or vases. Finally, select lighting for the bedside tables that is in scale with the table and bed height.
